Profile: What Makes Lagavulin 8 Year Old Special
Whisky journalist Alfred Barnard visited the island of Islay and the Lagavulin distillery around 1880 and was delighted both by the place and by the 8-year-old he was served – he described the whisky as “exceptionally fine”. The 8-year-old Lagavulin matures in European and American refill oak casks – an incredibly complex single malt, sweet, smoky and warming.
Tasting Notes: What Lagavulin 8 Year Old Tastes Like
- Nose: Soft on the nose with pure, fresh tones – traces of milk chocolate and lemon, behind that a combination of tea and smoke – the closeness of the sea and fresh grain
- Palate: Pleasantly silky mouthfeel, distinctly a Lagavulin now! Sweet and smoky – the smoke grows sharper and more pronounced, the sweetness recedes

Ein ganz toller Lagavulin, der sicher eher dem 12 jährigen ähnelt als dem 16 jährigen, dabei aber trotz des jungen Alters schon unglaublich rund ist. Ich finde er hat zurecht bei Whiskyfun 90 Punkte bekommen!
Schön, dass es diesen Whisky bei maltsandmore gibt (ich habe ihn woanders bisher nicht gefunden) und dass die Lieferung wieder so prompt geklappt hat!
