Profile: What Makes Paul John Classic Select Cask Special
An elegant, unpeated single malt whisky from Goa, India. It matured in ex-bourbon barrels and is bottled at cask strength and without chill filtration. In the sample it is easy to get to know.
Paul John is the single malt brand of John Distilleries, founded in 1992 by Paul P. John in Bangalore. The distillery in Cuncolim in Goa began producing the single malt in 2008, and the whiskies have been available internationally since 2012. It is distilled from six-row barley from the Himalayan foothills.
Tasting Notes: What Paul John Classic Select Cask Tastes Like
- Nose: Stewed apples and pears, plenty of barley and a hint of salt; plus freshly baked sponge cake, bran muffins and a hint of bourbon
- Palate: Now spicier with black pepper and cinnamon, plus plenty of honey, fruit and dark chocolate; sweet and soft, almost liqueur-like, with tropical fruit such as pineapple, banana and mango and soft toffee
- Finish: Very fruity in the finish with a lightly spicy note, a prickle of peppery heat and sweet tropical fruit
