Portrait: What makes the Laphroaig Oak Select special
Laphroaig Oak Select is an award-winning single malt Scotch Whisky from the Laphroaig distillery on the island of Islay in Scotland.
The malt is made by blending whiskies from five different casks and maturation stages to create a unique flavor. Among them are casks of Oloroso Sherry Butts, Pedro Ximinez Seasoned Hogsheads and First-Fill Bourbon Quarter Casks.
After maturation, a blend is made with Laphroaig malt from new American oak casks and the Laphroaig 10 year old. The combination with malt from fresh oak Casks is used rather rarely in Scotch single malts and gives this malt a very special flavor.
The Laqhroaig brand places great emphasis on quality and authenticity and is committed to using traditional methods and raw materials.
Laphroaig Oak Select has a smoky and peaty flavor created by the slow smoke of Islay peat used during the distillation process. The Scotch also has notes of seaweed, vanilla and oak that come from the casks in which it has matured. It is a complex and balanced whiskey, characterized by its intense flavor.
Laphroaig recommends enjoying the whisky neat to experience its full flavor. However, it is also possible to drink it with a shot of water to enhance its flavors and reduce the alcohol content.
