Here, the single malt Tomatin Legacy is created, whose name already reveals: It's about legacy. Sounds grand? It is – but in a pleasantly down-to-earth Highland way. The distillery was founded in 1897, although illegal distilling was supposedly taking place in the area much earlier.
So you could say: The people around Tomatin have always had a certain "entrepreneurial creativity". In the 20th century, the distillery temporarily grew to become Scotland's largest producer of malt whisky – a real powerhouse in wellington boots. One special feature: In 1986, Tomatin was acquired by the Japanese Takara Shuzo Group. This made it one of the first Scottish distilleries to be Japanese-owned. A connection that shows that good ideas know no borders – especially when it comes to whisky.
