Portrait: What makes the Laphroaig 10 year old
The distillery Laphroaig on the island of Islay produces whiskey since 1815. Among other things, the favorite whiskey of Prince Charles, which one also proudly on the labels of the 10-year-old Laphroaig to the show.
Laphroaig is a typical representative of Islay - for Laphroaig applies the principle: "Either you love him or you hate him!". The distillery has existed since 1815, and since then the production processes have been refined further and further. The Erbnis are extremely high-quality single malts Islay Whiskies.
The taste of Laphroaig 10 years is overwhelming, whiskey connoisseurs use words like seaweed, diesel, tar or disinfectant to describe him.
The Laphroaig 10 years is still distilled in exactly the same way as when it was created 75 years ago. In 2019, this malt received a gold award at the San Francisco World Spirits Awards.
Laphroaig is one of the few distilleries today that still stings its own peat and whose "malting floors" are still in operation.
Tasting Notes: So tastes the Laphroaig 10 year old
- Aroma: at the beginning equally strong with lots of smoke and peat, plus spicy aromas and licorice, slightly salty - you can see the proximity to the sea - in the background burnt, damp wood
- Taste: now clearly seaweed and lots of oak, then intense phenols and iodine, reminiscent of a first aid kit with plasters and gauze bandages, some old leather - then getting spicier with notes of black pepper and cardamom
- finish: long in the finish, again peat and iodine - some tar and damp wood
