Renegade
Renegade represents one of the most unusual approaches in recent rum history: the terroir-rum pioneer from Grenada that began production in 2020 and has since closed. Founded by Mark Reynier – known for reviving the Scotch whisky distillery Bruichladdich – Renegade was one of the first rum distilleries to consistently apply the "single farm" terroir concept: each bottling comes from precisely defined sugarcane grown on a single plot of land.
In 2024, the distillery was sold and production ceased. The bottlings still available, such as Renegade White 2025, are therefore limited and will not be reproduced.

Who is behind Renegade – and why did the distillery close?
Mark Reynier had already shown with the Scotch whisky distillery Bruichladdich that he takes unconventional paths. In 2015, he began searching for a location for his own rum project that would consistently apply terroir principles to rum. After a ten-year search, Grenada was chosen; in 2020, the roughly US$25 million Renegade Rum Distillery began production with brand-new pot and column stills from the Scottish manufacturer Forsyths. In 2024, however, the distillery was sold, production ceased, and the associated sugarcane supplier CaneCo was shut down.
What makes Renegade's terroir concept so distinctive?
Unlike most rum producers, Renegade distilled exclusively freshly pressed sugarcane juice from precisely defined, individual plots of land in Grenada – similar to the single-vineyard principle in winemaking. Each "Single Farm Cuvée" therefore carries the name of its plot of origin.
