When two absolute heavyweights of the rum world join forces, one might well approach the bottle with a sense of reverence. Or at the very least, pretend to instantly grasp exactly what "Single Blended Rum" entails. In the case of the Foursquare Indomitas 2010/2025, however, what lies behind it is a collaboration that makes rum enthusiasts worldwide sit up and take notice: Luca Gargano of Velier and Richard Seale of Foursquare have once again joined forces—marking their eleventh collaboration to date.

Some collect stamps; others join forces to create legendary rums.

The renowned Foursquare Distillery is located on Barbados - that Caribbean island often hailed as the birthplace of rum. While elsewhere palm trees serve primarily as postcard fodder, here, for generations, serious spirits of global renown have been crafted. Richard Seale is regarded as one of the industry’s most innovative minds - a sort of "Rum Professor," albeit one with a significantly better selection of beverages in his office.

The name "Indomitas" sounds almost like a forgotten Latin term for indomitability - or perhaps like the final boss in a historical adventure film. In fact, the title suits this powerful project perfectly. Distilled from molasses and bottled at a robust cask strength of a full 62% ABV, this rum demonstrates - even just on paper - that what awaits here is no mere, nondescript poolside companion.

The cask maturation process is particularly intriguing as well: the rum was allowed to mature in both Bourbon and Cognac casks.

This combination alone suggests an encounter between two very different characters who, in the end, harmonize surprisingly well - a bit like a British gentleman and a French poet on a Caribbean vacation.

The collaboration between Velier and Foursquare has by now attained near-cult status.
