Portrait: What makes The Highland Connection 6 year old - Batch 2 special

Some friendships happen by chance - others are carefully composed. The Highland Connection 6 year old Batch 2 definitely belongs to the second category. Here, two Scottish characters meet who, while not geographically close neighbors, nevertheless form a remarkably harmonious union.
One could say: a refined encounter of two whisky personalities, where no one wants to go home too soon. This bottling is a so-called blended malt, a marriage of different single malts – but without grain whisky. In this case, the components come from two distilleries with their own unique histories: Highland Park and Ardnamurchan Distillery. One boasts a centuries-old tradition, while the other is among the most exciting younger names in the Scottish whisky world.
Together, they create a kind of generational meeting in a glass. The older part of the blend was distilled 2004 at Highland Park. This legendary distillery is located on the windswept Orkney Islands in northern Scotland and is one of the most renowned whisky producers in the world. Whisky has been produced there since 1798 – a time when messages were still sent by sailing ship and the term "batch release" would probably have caused puzzled looks.
The younger partner comes from the Ardnamurchan Distillery, located on the remote Ardnamurchan Peninsula on the west coast of Scotland. This distillery is a modern project of the independent bottling company Adelphi Distillery Ltd., which has been known for high-quality whiskies for years.
So, while Highland Park brings the experience of an old sea dog, Ardnamurchan delivers the energy of a young explorer. Batch No. 2 was bottled in 2025 at cask strength with a robust 50.6% ABV and in a strictly limited edition of only 479 bottles – a quantity about as exclusive as a parking spot right outside a Scottish distillery on a sunny day.
The name "Highland Connection" is perfectly fitting: this bottling demonstrates how exciting it can be when different regions, vintages, and distilleries come together. Or, to put it another way: when two Scottish whisky characters decide to make history together – at least in 479 very lucky bottles.

Tasting Notes: This is how The Highland Connection 6 year old - Batch 2 tastes like

  • Nose: On the nose, a fruity and smoky aroma unfolds, reminiscent of rhubarb and a crackling campfire on the Scottish west coast. This is accompanied by the intense sweetness of red raisins. The smoke is not dominant, but pleasantly warm and enveloping, harmoniously framing the fruity aromas.
  • Palate: On the palate, the whisky is lively and expressive. Peppery spice meets sherry-forward, caramelized oranges, which unfold in a multifaceted way. Notes of cedarwood lend the overall impression an elegant depth, while juicy cherries add fruity accents and further richness to the taste.
  • Finish: The finish is dry yet silky. Fine marzipan and dark coffee characterize the aftertaste, complemented by an airy, almost creamy eucalyptus note. Overall, the finish is elegant, aromatic, and pleasantly long-lasting.
