Portrait: What makes The Campbeltown Connection 10 year old special

The Blended Malt Scotch Whisky “The Campbeltown Connection 10 Year Old” sounds a bit like a secret alliance in its very name – and that's exactly what it is. Bottled by the independent bottler North Star Spirits, this bottling brings together a region that is bigger than its current reputation: Campbeltown. Once the whisky capital of the world, today small, proud, and with a history longer than many a Scottish winter.

North Star Spirits was founded in 2016 by Iain Croucher and has since made a name for itself by bottling character rather than large marketing budgets. The star in the name is less astrological than programmatic: providing orientation in the often confusing whisky galaxy. Independent, curious, and with a penchant for the unconventional – that pretty much sums up the philosophy.
"The Campbeltown Connection" is a 10-year-old blended malt, made from malts from Springbank, Glen Scotia, and other Campbeltown distilleries.
The youngest distillate dates from 2015, and it was finally bottled in 2025. A decade, then, in which this whisky had time to find its identity – without any rush, because Campbeltown has never been a place for quick fixes. Historically, Campbeltown was home to over 30 distilleries in the 19th century. Today, only a few remain, but their reputation is legendary.
Springbank is considered one of the last completely independent distilleries in Scotland, while Glen Scotia stands as a quiet survivor steeped in history. This bottling is a respectful tribute to precisely this tradition.
In short: "The Campbeltown Connection 10 Year Old" isn't a loud, self-promoting wine, but rather the well-informed guy at the end of the bar who knows exciting stories - and can tell them.

Tasting Notes: This is how The Campbeltown Connection 10 year old tastes like

  • Nose: On the nose, caramelized grapefruits are initially apparent, offering a beautiful balance of sweetness and tart freshness. These are joined by fresh vanilla beans, clear and elegant, more natural than overpowering. Overall, the aroma is vibrant and inviting, with a subtle depth that piques your curiosity for the first sip.

  • Palate: On the palate, the whisky presents itself as salty and waxy, almost maritime in its character. A subtle peat note provides structure and gives the whisky noticeable body. This makes it feel robust and mouth-filling without being heavy. The individual impressions blend well together, creating a well-rounded and confident overall impression.
  • Finish: The finish is pleasantly warm and carried by citrusy orange aromas. Finally, a hint of paraffin emerges, giving the finish a slightly technical, typically Campbeltown-esque note that lingers for a long time. A finish with character and a distinctive character.
