Some whiskies are legends. Others are statements. And then there are those that simply say: "I'm young, smoky, and quite exclusive - do you have a problem with that?"

Torabhaig, located on the ruggedly beautiful Isle of Skye, is one of Scotland's newest distilleries. They've been distilling there since 2017, overlooking the sea, wind, and sheep. This one, a 7-year-old single cask, is one of the oldest whiskies Torabhaig has ever released - and it was allowed to spend its entire maturation process in a First Fill Bourbon Barrel (#1127). No half measures, then.

This fine piece was bottled by Thompson Bros., who have once again proven they have an outrageously good nose for special casks - and all without a gleaming headquarters. Their "headquarters"? A disused mini-fire station behind Dornoch Castle. From 2026, there will at least be a proper distillery with room to breathe: Struie Distillery. Until then, it's all about a lot of soul in a small space.

The Torabhaig 7-year-old is an exclusive bottling for Germany, so it's not for the masses, but for those who prefer to pick something selectively rather than blindly.

Summary: young, wild, smoky - and not the least bit shy. An island malt with big-city ambitions and a garage feel. Cheers!
