When the days get shorter, the nights get longer, and heating costs get higher, that's when its big moment comes: Big Peat, the weatherproof Islay character among whiskies, puts on its winter jacket - but not just any jacket, but a noble special edition with gold foil, embossing, and style. Because yes: The legendary peat beard is back – for the first time as a Winter Edition!

While previous bottlings came in festive Christmas attire, this time Big Peat shows off its chic side. No Santa hat, no reindeer – but an elegant, seasonally inspired design that will also make an impression on the bookshelf (and maybe even on your mother-in-law).

As always, behind this robust fellow is the traditional family business Douglas Laing & Co., which has been producing whiskies with character and rough edges since 1948. Big Peat itself has been around since 2009 and has long since blossomed from an insider tip to a cult figure among Islay lovers.

And as if all that weren't wintry enough, they've come up with something very special for this edition: A finish in Madeira casks from the famous Portuguese wine region. A first for Big Peat - and a tribute to the art of cask craftsmanship.

As always: 100% Islay Single Malts, not chill-filtered, not colored - but with plenty of steam from the coast. A full 53.6% vol. ensures that even in sub-zero temperatures, your heart will quickly feel warm (at least inside).

Whether as a gift, a collector's item, or a personal "I deserve winter" dram: The Big Peat Winter Edition is an honest sip of Islay with style - and probably the only guy with a full beard you'd voluntarily let into your living room.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Big Peat - The Winter Edition tastes like

  • Nose: Sweet malt meets fresh sea air - a salty breeze straight from the Islay coast. This is joined by aromas of salted caramel and vanilla, embedded in a lingering, robust smokiness that only comes from true Islay malts.
  • Palate: Rich and complex - opening with molasses and crème brûlée, followed by a hint of bitter orange peel. Smoky hints of coal dust and a distinctive phenolic note give the dram depth and character.
  • Finish: Long, smoky, and complex - citrus freshness and sea salt linger, accompanied by warm, earthy tones that give this winter dram a powerful yet balanced finish.
