Portrait: What makes the Boann P.X. Cask special
The Boann P.X. Cask is an Irish single pot still whiskey that demonstrates how much drama and elegance can fit into a single cask - without Shakespeare. It is produced by the Boann Distillery in eastern Ireland, specifically in Drogheda, where not only whiskey but also ideas bubble up. What makes it so special? The mash bill itself is anything but standard: malted and unmalted barley, plus oats and rye - all Irish, local, and proudly processed. A whiskey that has more ingredients than a good porridge, but is aged significantly better.
First, the spirit is allowed to rest in Oloroso hogsheads from the venerable Bodegas Garvey - 250 liters of concentrated sherry history. Then it goes into PX Solera butts from Málaga, some of which are even made of rare chestnut wood. Chestnut cask? Yes, you read that right - this whiskey not only has depth, but also style with rarity value.
The Boann brand stands for true Irish craftsmanship with the courage to be creative. Inspired by a river goddess, made for curious whiskey fans - the P.X. Cask is a bottling that not only matures, but also tells stories. With a wink. And plenty of character.
Tasting Notes: This is how the Boann P.X. Cask tastes like
- Nose: Rich and inviting with intense aromas of dark chocolate, dried raisins, and sweet caramel - accompanied by hints of spiced wood and a touch of sherry elegance, reflecting the maturation in PX casks
- Palate: Strong and full-bodied, the whiskey displays a complex interplay of dark chocolate, raisins, and velvety caramel on the palate. Despite its strength, it remains balanced, with a round mouthfeel and subtle spicy nuances that underline the depth of the single pot still
- Finish: Long-lasting and warming with a lingering aftertaste of chocolate, dried fruits, and a hint of oak. The finish is elegant, powerful, and harmonious, leaving a lasting impression of quality and character
