Portrait: What makes the Glendullan 17 year old 1st-fill Bourbon Barrel #316717 Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Ch. so special.
What once began as a small delicatessen is now a globally recognized specialist in the maturation of exceptional Scotch whiskies: Gordon & MacPhail. Family-owned for four generations, the company combines its own barrels with distillates from over 100 Scottish distilleries. In 1968, George Urquhart, a key figure in the owner family, founded the Connoisseurs Choice series. At a time when single malts were mostly incorporated into blends, he created a groundbreaking platform for independent bottlings. The range now includes over 2,000 whiskies from almost 100 distilleries.
Each label tells the story of the bottling - with information on cask type, vintage, alcohol content, bottling date, and tasting notes.
A rare single malt from Dufftown: The Glendullan 2007/2025 comes from one of the lesser-known Speyside distilleries - as a single cask, it is a true rarity. This whisky, limited to just 181 bottles, matured for 17 years in a first-fill bourbon barrel, which gave it a distinctly soft and aromatic style.
The nose and palate are dominated by creamy vanilla sauce, light fruits such as pear and apple, and a hint of peanut brittle, which gives the whisky a charming nuttiness.
The influence of the fresh bourbon barrel provides depth, elegance, and a gentle sweetness that harmonizes beautifully with the natural fruitiness of the distillate.
Distilled in 2007, bottled on March 5, 2025 - uncolored, non-chill-filtered, and bottled neat. A rare treat for lovers of subtle, bourbon cask-aged Speysiders.
