In Campbeltown, in the southern part of the Kintyre peninsula, Whisky has been distilled for many centuries. The oldest evidence dates back to 1591. The Springbank distillery is also based in the former whisky capital of the world and has been producing whisky of the highest quality here since 1828.
The independent Springbank distillery is one of the few distilleries in Scotland which is still run by members of the original family - the Mitchells.
The current owner Hedley G. Wright is their direct descendant. In general, this distillery is a living tradition: The premises consist not only of the original headquarters from 1828, but also of parts of the former distilleries Longrow, Rieclachan, Union, Springside and Argyll...
