Campbeltown: The Victorian whisky capital of the world
Campbeltown, once known as the whiskey capital in the 19th century with over 30 distilleries, looks back on an eventful past Center of whisky production and still has a worldwide reputation today.
Today the three active distilleries Springbank, Glengyle and Glen Scotia in Campbeltown preserve the heritage the former Victorian whisky capital of the world and produces unique single malts using traditional production methods.
Tasting notes: This is what the Springbank 12 year old cask Strength tastes like
- Nose: initially aromas of marzipan and smoked meat, followed by the scent of burnt matches
- Palate: mouth-filling with plenty of smoke and earthy notes, very nutty, especially notes of pistachios - then caramelized brown sugar, prunes and vanilla pudding
- Finish: in the long finish a clear breeze of sea air and hints of red apple peels
