Portrait: What makes the Holyrood Embra special
Founded in 2019, the Holyrood Distillery brings the Single malt production returns to Edinburgh. Inspired but not dictated by the past, the craft distillery combines artisanal tradition with bold, new ideas - such as experimenting with malts, fermentation and special casks, drawing on Edinburgh's rich brewing heritage. How the spirit of research affects whiskey is no longer just shown by the distillery's “New Makes”.
Embra is Holyrood's second release. The single malt will taste like “Peatheads” - and it is also the answer for everyone who has not yet drunk peat whisky.
It captures the classic, strong smoke flavors and textures. Balanced with chocolate, biscuits and light fruits, it is particularly accessible to new whisky drinkers. Embra is made from 56 percent peat malt distilled and triple matured in a combination of First Fill Bourbon Barrels, Islay Quarter Casks and New American Oak Barrels.
Named after a colloquial expression for Edinburgh, Embra decorated with an illustrative design inspired by images of Saint Leonard.
Because: Holyrood is not just on St. Leonard's Lane in Edinburgh's Southside. St. Leonard was also the patron saint of barrel makers

Tasting Notes: This is how the Holyrood Embra tastes like
- Nose: Lemon peel, horse chestnut, with hints of peppermint and light hickory smoke
- Palate: Wafer cookies, dark chocolate mousse and notes of earthy Highland peat smoke
- Finish: Pear compote with a round, clean finish
