Profile: What Makes Embargo Añejo Esplendido Special
The Esplendido arises from the union of three types of rum: molasses rum from Trinidad & Tobago, cane honey rum from Guatemala and rhum agricole from Martinique. Compared with the other Embargo bottlings the Guatemalan share is emphasised. The blend is assembled in Charente and then refined in cognac casks.
A special heating technique was used in producing this vintage, which brings out sweet spice notes. The Esplendido is complex, round and digestible.
Tasting Notes: What Embargo Añejo Esplendido Tastes Like
- Nose: Soft spices (cardamom, cinnamon), a hint of paprika, acacia honey and a touch of orange blossom; fresh cane, candied lemons and exotic fruit such as green banana and passion fruit, plus liquorice and salted butter caramel
- Palate: Balanced, round and fresh at once, with notes of quince and plum that blend with gingerbread and cloves; woody vanilla, dark chocolate and candied sugar cane
