Profile: What Makes Yamazaki Distiller’s Reserve Special
The Yamazaki distillery was founded in 1923 and is regarded as Japan’s oldest distillery. The Distiller’s Reserve is a vatting of several malt whiskies from American oak, sherry casks, Mizunara oak and Bordeaux wine casks. The Mizunara oak contributes sandalwood and fine spice, the Bordeaux casks the lively red berry fruit. A mild single malt with distinct notes of fresh fruit.
Tasting Notes: What Yamazaki Distiller’s Reserve Tastes Like
- Nose: Fresh strawberries and ripe cherries at first, then aromas of spicy Mizunara oak; plus coconut and gentle floral tones
- Palate: Mild and very harmonious with notes of ripe raspberries, plus white peaches and a hint of coconut; vanilla and light wood spice
