The history of Venezuelan rum Botucal dates back to the 19th century.
Entrepreneur and explorer Don Juancho Meléndez was happy to share his great passion for spirits.
His interest in the manufacturing processes, the components contained and the influence of environmental factors led Meléndez to travel extensively.
From his excursions he brought back the necessary tools to create the perfect rum in his home country.
In doing so, he laid the foundation for Rum Botucal, also known internationally under the name Ron Diplomático.
Today, the botucal is made in the DUSA distillery (founded in 1959) at the foot of the Andes and near the Terepaima National Park.
Here the focus is on the traditional production of rum based on molasses and, among other things, virgin cane honey.
After the complex distillation in three different methods, the rum distillates are finally stored in former Bourbon & Scotch whiskey casks.
The Botucal Rum family is divided into two ranges.
The "Traditional Range" consists of the white rum Botucal Planas, which is aged for up to six years, the rum Botucal Mantuano, which is aged for up to eight years, and the flagship of the range: Botucal Reserva Exclusiva.
This was stored in ex-Bourbon & Scotch whiskey casks for up to 12 years.
For rum experts and connoisseurs, Botucal offers the exquisite and limited "Prestige Range" consisting of the Rum Botucal Single Vintage and the masterpiece from Botucal, the Rum Botucal Ambassador,
matured in ex-bourbon casks for at least 12 years and then matured in ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for a further two years.
Selección de Familia is a special blend of rums aged up to twelve years, made by passionate, experienced Maestros Roneros and coming from the heart of a family who share the passion
and embodies the know-how of the rum tradition.
The characteristic rums were carefully selected in extensive tastings.
The blend of rums matured in exBourbon, exMalt and exSherry casks offers increased complexity for a sophisticated drinking experience.
A masterful blend with 43% vol. Alcohol content that presents an elegant, smooth yet dry flavor profile in which flavors can best develop.
Nose: balanced aromas of sugar cane, honey and red fruits, followed by vanilla and oak
Palate: Spicy notes of wood and fruity plum combine with toffee for a well-rounded, lingering finish
