Profile: What Makes Braeval 21 Year Old 2000/2021 Special
A single cask, 21 years of maturity, cask strength: the Braeval 2000 lay in a refill butt (no. 6393) from distillation on 16 February 2000 until bottling on 18 February 2021 and was bottled at 60.3% ABV in only 591 individually numbered bottles. Braeval – also called Braes of Glenlivet – sits on a mountain ridge in the heart of Speyside and is rarely bottled as a single malt: there are no official bottlings, only a few independent ones.
It was bottled by Signatory Vintage in the Cask Strength Collection. The independent bottler was founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington, the former manager of the Prestonfield House Hotel in Edinburgh. Signatory was initially based in the Newhaven district of Edinburgh and took over the Edradour distillery in 2002, where its entire operation is now located. Its speciality is single cask bottlings – often at cask strength, without chill filtration and without colouring.

- Nose: Sweetish-fruity with apricots and figs, plus roasted nuts and ginger cake
