Profile: What Makes Hendrick’s Amazonia Gin Special
Hendrick’s Amazonia is a limited release from the Hendrick’s Cabinet of Curiosities: a bright, exotic, tropical gin inspired by master distiller Lesley Gracie’s adventure in the Amazon jungle. She visited the Venezuelan part of the Amazon and described it as a “unique and inspiring experience” from which Hendrick’s Amazonia emerged.
The gin takes the classic Hendrick’s style, known for cucumber and rose petal, and complements it with tropical botanicals from the Amazon rainforest. The result is an exotic gin with ripe tropical fruit and fine earthy spice that still clearly recalls Hendrick’s. It appears as a travel exclusive – which is why it rarely turns up in bars.
A contribution to nature is part of the concept: for every bottle bought, the environmental charity One Tree Planted plants a tree in the Venezuelan rainforest.
Tasting Notes: What Hendrick’s Amazonia Gin Tastes Like
- Nose: Rose and fresh cucumber, plus candied pineapple, mango, fine earthy spice, juniper and a hint of citrus
- Palate: Juicy citrus fruit, followed by juniper and earthy notes – sweet pineapple, orange and lime with hints of guava and dragon fruit; the classic rose and cucumber evolve into a rich herbal spice
