Profile: What Makes The Tyrconnell Special
The Tyrconnell was originally produced at the Abbey Street Distillery, for a long time Ireland's largest, which was owned by A.A. Watt & Co. Tyrconnell was a bestseller in the USA up until Prohibition – Prohibition brought the company A.A. Watt & Co. to its knees and into bankruptcy. Cooley remembered the brand in 1993 and revived it as a double-distilled single malt whiskey – with the name A.A. Watt on the label, revived for the occasion. The racehorse depicted on the label is the famous namesake of the whiskey: Tyrconnell won the Irish “National Produce Stakes” race in 1876 at 100-to-1 outsider odds, and was at the time owned by the Watt family.
