Profile: What Makes Navy Island XO Reserve Special
A traditionally made rum from hand-picked Jamaican rum casks, matured in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks. Navy Island is a small island off the coast of Port Antonio in the east of Jamaica – the British once had a naval base here, and so the rum found its way to Europe. A powerful, complex rum, oily with a special sweetness of fresh vanilla pods and caramel – plus spicy tones and tropical fruit. At 40% ABV an approachable entry to the otherwise very aromatic, drier Jamaican rums.
Tasting Notes: What Navy Island XO Reserve Tastes Like
- Nose: Characteristically Jamaican, with distinct oak, a hint of vanilla and juicy fruit – ripe tropical fruit, bananas and baked apple
- Palate: Balanced between vanilla, ripe fruit, bananas, baked apple and caramel; light vanilla and exotic fruit notes
- Finish: Long, dry and round, with a subtle oak note
