Profile: The Bruichladdich 8 year old "The Laddie Eight" at a glance
- Unpeated Islay Whisky: Despite its origins on the heavily peated island of Islay, the Laddie Eight is an unpeated single malt - typical of Bruichladdich's "Laddie" line
- Maturation in American oak: The single malt matures predominantly in former bourbon casks made of American white oak, which significantly influences its character
- Bottled at 50%vol.: The comparatively high alcohol content ensures more depth and expressiveness - ideal for connoisseurs who prefer more intense flavors
- Without chill filtration & No colorings: Like all Bruichladdich bottlings, the Laddie Eight is bottled without chill filtration and without the addition of colorings – a clear commitment to purity and transparency.
Portrait: What makes the Bruichladdich 8 year old "The Laddie Eight" special
The Bruichladdich 8 year old "The Laddie Eight" is a distinctive single malt from the Scottish island of Islay, clearly distinguishing itself from the region's typical, heavily peated whiskies. As part of the "Laddie" series, it represents an unpeated, elegant style that reflects Bruichladdich's philosophy of craftsmanship, provenance, and transparency. This bottling was originally developed for the travel retail market (duty-free) and is aimed at connoisseurs seeking a younger, yet expressive Islay whisky.
The whisky is made from Scottish barley and processed entirely at the distillery in Lochindaal - from distilling and maturation to bottling on-site. Laddie Eight is matured in a combination of carefully selected American oak casks, mostly ex-bourbon casks, which lends the whisky depth and structure. It is bottled at a robust 50% ABV, naturally without chill filtration and without added coloring.
With Laddie Eight, Bruichladdich offers a younger, yet already highly complex bottling that reflects both its maritime origins and the distillery's innovative, sustainable approach. An expressive representative of modern Islay whisky.
Tasting Notes: This is how the Bruichladdich 8 year old "The Laddie Eight" tastes like
- Nose: spicy honey and citrus blossoms, with warm, soft pastries behind it
- Palate: even more citrus fruit, now sweet and juicy, with notes of salted poppy pastries - caramel in the background
- Finish: distinctly fresh hay and wild herbs on the finish
