The Kilkerran 12 year old is the charming eccentric among Scottish whiskies - directly from Campbeltown, a whisky region that was once the "Whisky Capital of the world," but is now considered a best-kept secret. It is produced by the Glengyle Distillery, which was brought back to life in 2004 - after almost 80 years of slumber. So if you thought only Sleeping Beauty wakes up spectacularly, you haven't heard of this whisky yet.
The name Kilkerran doesn't come from the distillery itself - but from the Gaelic "Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain," the original name of the town of Campbeltown. Why not simply "Glengyle 12"? Because the name was already trademarked. No joke. But hey, that just makes it more likeable.
Things get really exciting for the 12-year-old: It's aged 70% in ex-bourbon and 30% in ex-sherry casks, a pretty successful blend of classic and charmingly complex. The result is a whisky with depth, character - and a pleasantly unfussy nature that Campbeltown fans will appreciate.

- Nose: Spicy oak is present, followed by toasted marshmallows, dried fruits, and custard, followed by cherries, marzipan, and a hint of peat.
- Palate: Fruity at the beginning with distinct citrus and orange peel, then vanilla, butterscotch, honeycomb, and teacakes.
- Finish: Velvety smooth finish with notes of ripe lemons - slightly oily and salty, as you would expect from a Campbeltown malt expected

Toller Whisky aus Cambeltown. Der erste 12er aus dem Haus Kilkerran-Springbank. Er braucht etwas Zeit im Glas, vielleicht auch 3 Tropfen Wasser, um sich zu öffnen. Die Geduld wird sich aber bestimmt lohnen.
