Profile: What Makes The Pogues Official Irish Whiskey Special
It is here: the famous Irish punk-folk band The Pogues have “their” whiskey. A genuine Irish blended whiskey with an unusually high malt whiskey content of 50%. It consists of ten-year-old single malt from ex-sherry casks and five to seven-year-old single grain from ex-bourbon casks; it is produced by West Cork Distillers in Skibbereen.
The Pogues were formed in London in 1982, at first under the name Pogue Mahone; Shane MacGowan founded the band with James Fearnley, Jem Finer and Spider Stacy. Their biggest hit “Fairytale of New York” reached number two in the UK charts at Christmas 1987. In the sample their whiskey is easy to get to know.
