The new bottling of the 10-year-old from Gordon & MacPhail's Speyside distillery Benromach. Benromach first matures this single malt whisky in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks, then for a further year in ex-oloroso sherry casks. The sample makes it easy to get to know.
Tasting Notes: What Benromach 10 Year Old Tastes Like
- Nose: Barley at first, malty with plenty of oak – then turning fruitier, especially plums and maple syrup – sweet-spicy, a little smoke
- Palate: Creamy! Spicy-fruity, fresh grated ginger, distinct fruity sherry notes and the malt again – plus light peat notes
- Finish: Sweet-spicy in the finish – the ginger is present again, plus plenty of sherry and lightly peaty once more
