Profile: What Makes Talisker Dark Storm Special
Matured in heavily charred casks, Talisker Dark Storm is noticeably smokier and spicier than its buddy Talisker Storm. On launch Diageo described it as the smokiest Talisker to date. It was originally bottled for the duty-free trade in 2013. In the sample it is easy to get to know.
Talisker is in Carbost on the west coast of the Isle of Skye and is the island’s only distillery. It was founded in 1830 by the brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill. Triple distillation was used here until 1928; today Talisker belongs to Diageo.
Tasting Notes: What Talisker Dark Storm Tastes Like
- Nose: Distinct smoked ham, black pepper and a spicy sharpness – ripe yellow fruit and malt
- Palate: A lot of oak and smoke at the start – then red, ripe fruit, some citrus and fresh honey
- Finish: Very long, again the Talisker-typical pepper, plus honey again and roasted nuts
