Profile: What Makes Talisker Skye Special
Talisker Skye matured in carefully selected, partly newly charred casks of American oak. The single malt has an easily approachable taste with the well-known characteristics of the distillery from the Scottish Hebrides – smoky and sweet with a spicy note. It is the fresher, lighter brother of the Talisker 10.
Talisker is in Carbost on the west coast of the Isle of Skye and is the island’s only distillery. It was founded in 1830 by the brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill. Triple distillation was used here until 1928; today Talisker belongs to Diageo.
Tasting Notes: What Talisker Skye Tastes Like
- Nose: Fresh oranges and mango, slightly peppery and earthy – traces of sea salt and smoke; tangerines, honey and milk chocolate
- Palate: Soft and sweet at first with very light smoke, then salted caramel and honey-glazed BBQ ribs, followed by a sharp spiciness – now more smoke
- Finish: Long and warming, with the distillery-typical pepper note and traces of sweet smoke
