Profile: What Makes Deanston Virgin Oak Special
The Scottish Highland distillery Deanston bottles this single malt whisky without chill-filtration and without added colouring. After a short maturation in traditional former bourbon casks from the USA, the whisky is matured in new, freshly charred casks of American oak – which brings buttery vanilla and apple pie notes.
Tasting Notes: What Deanston Virgin Oak Tastes Like
- Nose: Light citrus aromas, plus sweet barley sugar and traces of apples and nutmeg; apple pie from the oven and vanilla
- Palate: Candied fruit, vanilla, toffee and heather honey; cloves and cinnamon, creamy malt
- Finish: Delicate and lightly spicy, the honey again and a sweet oak note
