Glenglassaugh EVOLUTION

Profile: The Glenglassaugh EVOLUTION at a glance

  • Aged in Bourbon Casks: 100% matured in 1st-fill George Dickel Casks from Tennessee, USA
  • Fruit-forward: Pineapple, apple, and banana in harmonious interplay
  • Coastal character: A light salt note meets sweet barley
  • Young and lively: Fresh, direct, and without an age statement
  • Natural: Not chill-filtered and without colorings

Portrait: What makes the Glenglassaugh EVOLUTION special

Imagine a Scottish Highlander with a kilt and a weather-beaten face decides to vacation in Tennessee. He trades rain for sun, bagpipes for banjo, and the traditional haggis for... well, at least he still has the whisky. And this is precisely where the story of Glenglassaugh EVOLUTION begins – a single malt that sounds like a scientific project, but feels more like an experiment with style and character.

This charming drop from the Glenglassaugh Distillery wasn't forgotten in some old wooden Cask, but rather matured exclusively in former 1st-fill Bourbon Casks from the George Dickel Distillery in Tennessee. It's like putting a cowboy hat on a rugged Scotsman - and amazingly, it suits him really well.

EVOLUTION may sound like Darwin at first, but this isn't about apes to humans, it's about whisky to wow. The maturation in these barrels isn't a random whim, but rather a stylish intercultural exchange between American bourbon charm and Scottish distilling art. Tennessee meets Highlands - Yeehaw meets Aye!

The Glenglassaugh EVOLUTION is therefore not just a whisky, but a statement: It shows that tradition doesn't have to gather dust, but can be given cowboy boots. Who says a Scottish single malt always has to chill in sherry casks?

In short: A Highlander on a bourbon holiday - a little wild, quite original, and guaranteed not to be boring. And who knows, maybe he's wearing cowboy boots under his kilt now.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Glenglassaugh EVOLUTION tastes like

  • Nose: A fresh opening with sweet barley immediately makes you want to take the first sip. Ripe pineapple brings a tropical lightness to the glass, accompanied by creamy vanilla, reminiscent of bourbon past. As the palate progresses, gentle oak aromas and the subtle scent of caramelized pear unfold – almost like a summer fruit platter with a hint of wood fire in the background
  • Palate: On the palate, the whisky reveals itself with a distinctly more woody character. The oak asserts itself confidently, but leaves sufficient room for the fruity notes. Green apples provide freshness, while ripe bananas contribute a pleasant sweetness and richness. In the background, the malty barley shimmers again – this time accompanied by a subtle, slightly salty sea breeze, reminiscent of the proximity to the Scottish coast
  • Finish: Medium to long, harmonious and wonderfully balanced - the oak remains present but never dominant, and is elegantly accompanied by fruity nuances and a gentle hint of vanilla - a finish that doesn't rush but ends relaxed - like an evening stroll overlooking the sea
