Profile: What Makes Old Monk Rum 7 Year Old Special
Besides excellent whisky, the Indians also know how to make rum. This rum matures for over seven years in selected wooden casks; the result is a balanced, aromatic rum with a long finish.
Old Monk Very Old Vatted is a blend (vatted rum) of the Old Monk brand, made by Mohan Meakin in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. In the glass it shows a coppery brown.
Tasting Notes: What Old Monk Rum 7 Year Old Tastes Like
- Nose: A funky, almost winey bouquet with dried spices and dense molasses; sandalwood, overripe bananas and some charcoal
- Palate: Dense, full of baking spices – clove in particular – plus very dark, bitter chocolate, coffee grounds, burnt nuts and old wood; strong salted caramel and liquorice
- Finish: Lingering molasses, juicy liquorice and a warm, toasty sensation on the tongue
