Profile: What Makes Cardhu 15 Year Old Special
A wonderfully matured 15-year-old Speyside single malt. Cardhu is in the heart of Speyside near the village of Knockando and belongs to Diageo. The extra three years compared with the 12-year-old combine the distillery’s characteristic orchard fruit, barley-sugar malt and cake spices with richer tropical fruit and vanilla.
In the glass it shows golden amber with warm copper highlights and a honeyed glow.
Tasting Notes: What Cardhu 15 Year Old Tastes Like
- Nose: Ripe, tropical fruit, plus some vanilla; silky, with fruit-forward sweetness over toffee, ripe apple and pear over honeyed malt, almond and a soft sherry influence
- Palate: Complex and rich, sweet with a malty note; juicy apple and pear over creamy caramel and honeyed malt, with a delicate strawberry-chocolate edge
- Finish: Drier, medium-length; lingering with orchard fruit and toffee, warming and lightly sweet

Der 15-jährige begeistert mit seinem kräftigen Antritt und dem knorrigen Fass als erstem Eindruck und übertrifft mit seiner Ausgewogenheit den 12-jährigen deutlich. Mit angenehmer Süße und rundem Mundgefühl hinterlässt er eine recht langanhaltende Würzigkeit. Noch dazu ist er zumindest momentan hier recht preiswert.

Die 3 zusätzlichen Jahre bringen meiner Meinung nach nichts. Mir war er etwas zu trocken und würzig (Eiche). Ich würde den 12 Jährigen bevorzugen (weicher und runder).

Gegenüber dem 12 Jährigen etwas zu viel Trockenheit/Eiche für meinen Geschmack. Ist den Mehrpreis nicht unbedingt wert.

Durchaus lecker, dieser 15-jährige Cardhu. Allerdings halte ich den Unterschied zum 12-jährigen für eher unbedeutend. Aber das ist ja das Schöne am Whisky es ist wohl für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei!
