Profile: What Makes Ron Zacapa Sistema 23 Solera Gran Reserve Special
Ron Zacapa is distilled in Guatemala, 2,300 metres above sea level. The casks used range from 6 to 23 years old, and the Solera Gran Reserve is produced and bottled using the solera system (common practice in sherry production). Various rum casks are first married together in a solera cask. Only half of this solera cask is bottled, while the other half remains in the cask and is topped up with a new batch. Ron Zacapa is made exclusively from fresh sugar cane juice. Zacapa uses old bourbon, sherry and Pedro Ximénez casks for maturing its rum. The sample is ideal for an easy introduction to this award-winning solera rum.
