Profile: What Makes Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old Special
A single malt whisky from the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay. The 12-year-old has a light aroma of fresh sea air, plus a light salt note and a gentle, soft honey tone – a trace of smoke in the background. The sample makes it easy to get to know.
Its character is coastal, fruity, light, sweet and nutty. Since the brand’s relaunch in 2010 it has been bottled at natural colour and without chill filtration at 46.3% ABV.
Tasting Notes: What Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old Tastes Like
- Nose: Dark fruit such as raisins, blackcurrant and plum with sweet vanilla, then clove and charred oak, a slightly salty coastal note with a touch of seaweed; plus orange peel, liquorice, roasted walnuts and malt
- Palate: Bright and rich with milk chocolate, honeysuckle, melon and summer fruits; good body, sweetness and a touch of earthy minerality
- Finish: Sea salt and earth take over; rather short
