Profile: What Makes Amrut Peated Special
Amrut’s peated single malt whisky – multiple award-winning: with the Liquid Gold Award from Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible and a bronze award at the Malt Maniacs Awards. The barley is peated at Baird’s Malting in Inverness in Scotland, and the malt is then distilled and matured in Bangalore.
Amrut Distilleries was founded in 1948 by J.N. Radhakrishna Rao Jagdale in Bangalore. His son Neelakanta Rao Jagdale decided in 1982 to enter malt distillation; on 24 August 2004 Amrut, the first single malt whisky made in India, was released.
The Peated combines the sweetness of Indian malt with smoky peat.
Tasting Notes: What Amrut Peated Tastes Like
- Nose: Sweet, distinct smoked ham, smoke and sweet peat – plus malt and some caramel; unusually dry peat, like the peat reek absorbed by an old leather armchair, plus a hint of citrus
- Palate: Smoke and peat are still present, plus intense fruity notes and malt; first an embrace of molassed sugar, then peat that grows more forceful, drier and spicier
- Finish: Medium-length finish with peat and fruit; butterscotch and vanilla wrap around the phenols for a clear, comfortable finale

Echte Alternative - sehr nah an nem Schotten - allerdings schmeckt man nichts "exotisches" falls man das erwartet

Very young Indian( no Indian is more th 5yo ) with a lovely peaty tone in harmony with the clean malty body makes it a winner. Scottish distillers may have things to learn.
