Profile: What Makes Amrut Indian Single Malt Special
Amrut was founded in 1948 in Bangalore, India. Amrut sources its barley from fields in northern India. The climate in Bangalore makes the whisky mature extremely quickly in the cask, which is why the oldest Indian whisky to date is only twelve years old. Despite the comparatively short maturation, Amrut achieves a balanced malt that need not fear comparison with its Scottish relatives. In the sample it is easy to get to know.
On 24 August 2004 Amrut launched the first single malt whisky made in India.
Tasting Notes: What Amrut Indian Single Malt Tastes Like
- Nose: Confident notes of liquorice and bourbon in a near-perfect bittersweet balance; burnt honeycomb and toffee, plus powdered sugar, honey and marshmallows
- Palate: Great richness and sheen with the sweetness of barley and oak, liquorice and molassed sugar
- Finish: Long, layered – oak in variations of a sweet-dry theme, plus some cream toffee
