Profile: What Makes Penderyn Sherrywood Special
This Penderyn AC (Aur Cymru – Welsh gold) matured in selected ex-sherry casks. On St David's Day (1 March, St David being the patron saint of the Welsh) in 2004, the first whisky was presented to the public. This was the beginning. As the whisky ages, it becomes even richer in body and its complexity increases. The undesirable aromas in the distillate, which normally need many years of maturation to disappear, are simply not present in the first place, thanks to Penderyn's distillation method. The sample is ideal for an easy introduction to this Welsh sherry style.
Tasting Notes: What Penderyn Sherrywood Tastes Like
- Nose: Dark fruit and plenty of toffee, plus green apples and hazelnuts
- Palate: A bold, fruity sweetness at first, becoming drier
- Finish: Sweet notes of toffee and sultanas – clearly the sherry, plus wintery spice
