Portrait: What makes the Glenfarclas 21 year old special
The Glenfarclas 21 year old comes from one of the most traditional and independent distilleries in Scotland. Glenfarclas, which means "valley of green grass" in Gaelic, was founded in 1836 and has been owned by the Grant family since 1865. Today, John Grant is the fifth generation to run the company - a rarity in the whisky world.
The distillery is located in Speyside and is one of the few Scottish distilleries that has continued production almost uninterrupted over the decades - even during difficult economic times and years of war. This continuity is reflected in the broad product range, which extends from younger bottlings to decades-old rarities.
The Glenfarclas 21 year old is a prime example of the house's philosophy: honest, traditional single malt, matured in high-quality sherry casks and without unnecessary experimentation. This bottling embodies maturity, depth, and craftsmanship and is considered a favorite among connoisseurs seeking a classic Speyside whisky steeped in history - independently produced, family-run, and uncompromising in quality.
Tasting Notes: This is how the Glenfarclas 21 year old tastes like
- Nose: intense and complex - ripe sherry-soaked fruits are prominent, accompanied by tropical fruits such as mango and pineapple - spice aromas such as nutmeg and a hint of roasted almonds provide depth - subtle citrus aromas emerge in the background, lending the aroma freshness.
- Palate: full-bodied, soft, and round on the palate - the whisky develops slowly on the palate, unfolding fruity notes and a pleasant spiciness - the balance between fruit and wood is excellent - typical of the long maturation in high-quality sherry casks
- Finish: long, smooth, and elegant - a subtle sweetness lingers, accompanied by a slightly chocolatey feeling in the back of the palate - the finish is warm and smooth - a worthy conclusion to a mature Speyside classic
