Portrait: What makes the Auchentoshan Three Wood special
The Auchentoshan Three Wood is a characterful single malt whisky from the Scottish Lowlands, known for its particularly smooth style. The Auchentoshan distillery, located not far from Glasgow, distinguishes itself from other Scottish distilleries through a rare practice: it triple distills its whisky, which gives the distillate a particularly light and delicate structure.
The name "Three Wood" refers to the special maturation process of this whisky. It is first aged in former American oak bourbon casks before being double-finished in Spanish Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. This combination creates a particularly complex and rich aromatic structure – without being overpowering.
Auchentoshan is known for its modern approach and accessible character, making Three Wood appealing to both novices and experienced connoisseurs. The elaborate cask selection and careful maturation make it an exciting Lowland alternative with international flair. With its elegant appearance and multifaceted profile, the Three Wood is one of the most popular bottlings in the Auchentoshan range.
Tasting Notes: This is how the Auchentoshan Three Wood tastes like
- Nose: Fruity and inviting with intense aromas of blackcurrant, ripe orange, and juicy plum - the sherry cask aging brings a deep, dark fruit complexity to the nose.
- Palate: Full-bodied and harmonious with a balanced combination of fruit and sweetness - distinct notes of roasted hazelnuts combine with creamy butterscotch and a subtle spice that gives the whisky structure.
- Finish: Fresh, smooth, and pleasantly sweet - the sweet tones linger and lend an elegant, slightly fruity depth to the finish.

Sehr fein abgestimmter Lowlands Tropfen.
