At a spirits fair in 2008, a group of Danish whisky enthusiasts spontaneously fell in love with rum - and promptly decided to buy their own cask. Their first cask, a rum from Trinidad, was bottled in 2009; the positive response from respected houses like Costa Rica's Centenario and British merchant Bristol encouraged the founders to turn it into a company: 1423 World Class Spirits. Under the name S.B.S. - Single Barrel Selection - they have since released over 50 pure single-cask bottlings from around the world: unadulterated rum straight from the barrel, with no additives or chill filtration, often at impressive cask strength.
