"Esclavo" - Spanish for "slave" - is a deliberately uncomfortable brand name, recalling the dark side of sugar cane and rum history: the enslaved people who paid the high price for the world's rum consumption over centuries. Ron Esclavo is made by Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos, the largest spirits producer in the Dominican Republic, which grows its own sugar cane and controls the entire process in-house, from fermentation to bottling. The series is distributed by 1423, the Danish spirits importer also behind the single-cask S.B.S. line - four carefully tropically aged premium rums, hand-cut sugar cane included.
