Emperor
In 1901, a British royal couple stopped briefly on Mauritius on their way to Australia - the future King George V and his wife Mary. It's precisely this historical moment, and the island's turbulent colonial history under French rule (1714-1810) and then British rule (1810-1968), that rum enthusiasts Bruno Le Merle and Christophe Aulner dedicate their Emperor brand to. Their concept is unusual: rather than choosing purely molasses-based or purely cane-juice rum, they deliberately blend both styles together - a fusion technique that gives Mauritian rum a distinctive aromatic range.

Where does the name "Emperor" come from?
The founders chose the likeness of King George V - who briefly stopped on Mauritius in 1901 during his journey to Australia and later also became Emperor of India - as a majestic symbol for their brand.
What's special about Emperor's blending technique?
Unlike most rum brands, which commit to either molasses-based or cane-juice rum, Emperor deliberately combines both styles in its blends - a distinctive production concept meant to aromatically reflect the island's history between French and British influence.
Flavour profile
Taste: Full-bodied and balanced with tropical fruit, caramel and, depending on the cask finish, additional sherry or Cognac notes.
Recommended enjoyment: Neat or on the rocks as a digestif; the sherry-finish variant also works well in upscale rum cocktails.
Start with Emperor Heritage.
