El Pasador de Oro
Two French spirits enthusiasts, Jean Moueix and Alexandre Sirech, had already made a name for themselves with the 100% French whisky Bellevoye before turning to a new project: rum from Guatemala, refined with French Cognac expertise. Through their company Les Bienheureux in Paris, they import molasses rums from various Guatemalan distilleries that have already matured six to fifteen years in oak barrels there - then give them a final, roughly six-month finishing maturation in Cognac barrels before bottling them under the name El Pasador de Oro.
Content: 0.04 Liter (€174.75 / 1 Liter)
Available, delivery time: 1-3 business days
What makes El Pasador de Oro a French-Guatemalan rum?
The base rums are distilled from molasses at Guatemalan distilleries and matured there for six to fifteen years in oak barrels. They then travel to Paris, where Les Bienheureux finishes them in selected Cognac barrels for around six months - an unusual combination of Caribbean-Latin American base and French cask technique.
Who is behind the brand?
Jean Moueix and Alexandre Sirech, who had previously successfully established the French whisky Bellevoye, founded El Pasador de Oro as their first joint rum project.
Flavour profile
Taste: Full-bodied and soft with ripe fruit and caramel from the Guatemalan base, complemented by an elegant, slightly nutty Cognac spice from the secondary maturation.
Recommended enjoyment: Neat as a digestif, to experience the interplay of both maturation traditions.
Available as El Pasador de Oro XO Sample 0.04l.
