Some anniversaries are celebrated with a cake. For its 200th anniversary, The Glendronach opted for a bottle of whisky. Understandably so—after all, the Scottish Highlands have offered plenty of reasons to raise a glass since 1826.

The distillery’s story begins with James Allardice, who founded The Glendronach in 1826. Its location on the Boynsmill Estate in the Highlands is far more than just an address: it is home to the historic Boynsmill House, a building inextricably linked to the distillery’s history. Allardice was renowned for his hospitality and delighted in welcoming distinguished guests there. You could say that, even back then, Glendronach understood that whisky and good company go hand in hand.

Marking the bicentenary in 2026, the limited-edition Boynsmill House bottling pays tribute to those origins. This 14-year-old single malt is a homage to the historic estate and its founder’s hospitality. Boynsmill House has been restored in time for the anniversary—giving this story not only a new bottle but also a real home once again.

The edition also remains true to its roots in its choice of casks. Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks were used for maturation, complemented by selected ex-Claret red wine casks. In doing so, the bottling combines The GlenDronach’s renowned sherry cask tradition with a nod to the wines once served at gatherings at Boynsmill House. The casks were selected by Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie. This 14-year-old single malt is bottled at 46.8% ABV as a limited anniversary edition. In short: The Boynsmill House Edition is less a whisky wearing a party hat and more a liquid invitation to step back in time. After all, when you have 200 years of whisky history to your name, you are entitled to celebrate your anniversary a little longer.
