When Sam Heughan isn't busy riding across the Highlands as a hero in the hit series Outlander, he seems to prefer devoting his time to life's truly important questions: How do you capture a piece of Scotland in a bottle? In Germany, the answer to that question goes by the name THE ’NACH Fine Scottish Vodka.

Anyone who knows Sam Heughan solely as the kilt-wearing Highland hero from Outlander has evidently missed out on the Scotsman's other great passion: high-quality spirits.

And true to form for a genuine "Galloway Lad," Sam doesn't do things by halves. His THE ’NACH Blended Scotch Whisky is conceived not merely as a whisky, but as a "Spirit of Home"—essentially Scotland in liquid form. Just significantly more practical for your carry-on luggage.

In retrospect, it comes as little surprise that Heughan would eventually launch his own whisky. Having grown up in the wild region of Galloway in southwest Scotland, he developed a deep bond with his homeland early on. Amidst ancient castle ruins, rugged landscapes, and a wealth of stories, the desire to become an actor, an adventurer, or a whisky producer seems to arise almost automatically. Sam, it appears, simply decided to become all three at once.

A pivotal step on this journey was the acquisition of the former Crafty Distillery in Newton Stewart, which has been known as the Galloway Distillery since 2025. However, the partnership itself dates back to 2023, when the distillery first began producing spirits for Sam’s brand. A particularly charming detail: the former owners, Craig Rankin and Graham Taylor, remained on board as managing directors. They know one another, they respect one another - and, presumably, they regularly engage in very serious discussions about casks there.

Internationally, Sam’s brand is known as “The Sassenach.” In Germany, however, trademark law threw a wrench in the works. Rather than face a complicated legal dispute, the decision was made - quite simply - to opt for THE ’NACH, exclusively for the German market. And quite honestly: The name sounds like the natural reaction to a good glass of whisky anyway. “Another one?” – “The ’Nach.”

For his Blended Scotch Whisky, Sam Heughan focuses on combining tradition with modern style. The finest Single Malt meets 21-year-old Single Grain Whisky—organically produced—complemented by a finishing period in Madeira casks. Or, to put it another way: classic Scottish craftsmanship with a little extra dash of sophistication—and absolutely no bagpipes required while you enjoy it.

• Nose: Inviting and harmonious, featuring fresh citrus notes accompanied by delicate almond nuances and soft vanilla. The combination feels elegant and pleasantly smooth.
