Ardnahoe itself is the youngest distillery on Islay, having also officially launched in 2019. It was born out of the desire of Hunter Laing & Co. to finally leave their own mark directly on site after decades as an independent bottler. The Hunter family has known Islay for generations and fulfilled their dream of owning a distillery with Ardnahoe – complete with traditional worm tubs and a clear philosophy: quality over speed. Located on the rugged northeast coast of the island, between Port Askaig and Caol Ila, the distillery overlooks the Sound of Islay. Here, there is plenty of wind, changeable weather, and ideal conditions for character development.
The location is no accident, but part of the DNA: Ardnahoe stands for single malts that know their origins from the very beginning. Cask No. 581 is a classic bourbon barrel, an American-made cask considered a reliable companion in the whisky world. Unlike exotic specialty casks, the focus here is not on grandeur, but on meticulous craftsmanship. A single cask, fully matured and unblended, allows for an unadulterated view of the distillery, the wood, and time.
It was bottled at cask strength, of course, and without any unnecessary intervention.

• Nose: Fresh and powerful with a clear presence of vanilla and light wood. These are complemented by aromas of lemon zest, apple peel, and a hint of honey. In the background, maritime notes emerge, along with a fine, smoky Islay note that lends depth and structure to the aroma.
