West Cork Maritime Release - Calvados Cask is a homage to Ireland's coasts, the origins of the founders - and to the passion for honest, handcrafted whiskey. Founded in 2003 by Denis McCarthy, Ger McCarthy, and John O'Connell, West Cork Distillers was born from a blend of idealism, family knowledge, and boldness at a time when whiskey distilling was barely viable in Ireland. Today, it is the country's largest wholly Irish-owned distillery, based in Skibbereen, deep in the south of the Emerald Isle.
The Maritime Range nods to the McCarthys' seafaring roots: The bottles are modeled after hand-blown floating spheres, once used on fishing boats. New to the series: the limited-edition West Cork Calvados Cask Finish.
This triple-distilled single malt was first aged in a classic manner and then given an elegant finish in French oak, topped with apple brandy from the House of Garnier. At 46% vol. drinking strength, the whiskey unfolds fruity depth and a finely balanced character. A maritime rarity for anyone who wants to rediscover Irish whiskey - with a touch of French apple charm.
