The independent farm distillery Lochlea is adding another – a proper cask strength, made directly from 100% of its own barley. And to top it off, there's a premiere from its own flavor library. Sounds fancy? It is!
In Lochlea Cask Strength Batch #3, two true heavyweights come together: luscious Oloroso sherry and characteristic Islay peat. A completely new dream team for the Lowland distillery – and a milestone for Jill Boyd, who came on board as Master Blender at the end of 2024 and composed the batch from start to finish with passion.
The result? A single malt with 59.8% ABV that combines richness and depth with surprising smoke – a connoisseurs' wrestling match in a glass, so to speak.
The bouquet is multifaceted: ripe red fruits and spicy BBQ smoke open the show, followed by full-bodied cherries and dark molasses, with a warm embrace of ginger cake, toasted rye, and wood smoke.
The long aftertaste? A multi-layered feast of baking spices, salty smoke, and oak tannins that duel with delicate red rose petals - in short, a bold reinterpretation of the typical Lochlea style that you won't soon forget.
