Portrait: What makes the Glen Garioch 11 year old Cadenhead's Original Collection special

This special bottling from the Cadenhead's Original Collection comes from the traditional Glen Garioch Distillery, one of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland. Founded in 1797 in the small town of Oldmeldrum in the Eastern Highlands, Glen Garioch (pronounced "Glen Geerie") stands for bold, full-bodied whiskies with plenty of character and depth. Half of this 11-year-old bottling was matured in ex-bourbon casks, which provide classic vanilla and wood notes, while the other half has been finished in fino sherry casks since 2020. Fino, the driest sherry style, gives the whisky an elegant spice and subtle dryness. which harmonizes wonderfully with the sweetness of the bourbon cask.

In the glass, a sweet and fruity Highland whisky appears with aromas of apple blossoms, raspberry ripple ice cream, fine marzipan and a pinch of salted caramel. The combination of bourbon maturation and a fino finish results in an exciting flavor profile that will delight both connoisseurs and curious newcomers.

A successful blend of two cask types - elegant, balanced, and typically Glen Garioch.

Tasting Notes: This is what the Glen Garioch 11 year old Cadenhead's Original Collection tastes like.

  • Palate: Soft and balanced on the palate with an elegant sweetness – marzipan adds a nutty, almondy depth, while panna cotta provides a creamy texture. A colorful fruit salad note rounds off the profile with vibrant freshness. and lightness
  • Finish: The finish is medium to long with gentle tones of salted caramel and a hint of chocolate orange, which blend harmoniously with a fine spice of cinnamon - a pleasantly warming, sweet and spicy finish

Cadenhead - Scotland's oldest independent bottler

Founded in 1842 in Aberdeen, William Cadenhead is Scotland's oldest independent bottler - an institution with almost two centuries of whisky history. Since 1972, the traditional company has been part of the respected J & A Mitchell & Co. Ltd., which also operates the famous Springbank and Glengyle distilleries in Campbeltown. The connection to Campbeltown - once known as the “Whisky Capital of the World” - is stronger than ever: All Cadenhead bottlings are matured and bottled there, guaranteeing not only short transport routes but also full control over quality. Cadenhead stands for uncompromising transparency and craftsmanship. The focus is not on marketing or packaging, but on what counts: “It’s what’s inside the bottle that counts.” Cadenhead carefully selects its casks and attaches great importance to to preserve the original character of each distillery. Whether Highland, Speyside, Islay, or Lowlands, each bottling is designed to clearly reflect the distinctive characteristics of its origin.
